Suncor is a Canadian pioneer in wind power, with four wind farms in operation and other projects in planning stages. Their renewable energy projects create partial offsets for greenhouse gas emission in their operations, simultaneously opening up new business opportunities and helping Canada shift to a greener energy system.

In September 2010, Suncor announced that it will construct an 88 megawatt (MW) wind farm near Drumheller, Alberta. The Wintering Hills project, a joint venture with Teck Resources Limited, is slated to have 55 turbines that are expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 35,000 Alberta homes.

Did you know?

On September 23rd, 2010 Suncor Energy became the first oil sands company to complete surface reclamation of a tailings pond. The 220-hectare site was the company's first storage pond for oil sands tailings when commercial production began in 1967. In time, the company expects the land will become a productive forest and wetland. The area has been renamed Wapisiw Lookout to pay tribute to the region and to honour its Aboriginal peoples.
