SAIT Polytechnic has a rich history beginning with its creation as the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (PITA) in 1916. This was the first publicly-funded technical institute in Canada. In 1960, PITA was renamed the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Beginning in 2009, SAIT embarked on the largest expansion in its history: construction of a $445 million Trades and Technology Complex that will add 3,600 full-time training spaces. Today SAIT offers four applied degrees, 65 diploma and certificate programs, 33 apprenticeship trades and 1,600 continuing education and corporate training courses.
